Filth flies are just that, filthy! Not only are filth flies annoying pests, but many are vectors of pathogens that cause diseases that affect humans and domestic animals. Flies are known to carry disease-causing organisms of typhoid, paratyphoid, cholera, bacillary dysentery, infantile, diarrhea, pinworm, roundworm, whipworm, hookworm, and tapeworm. House flies, blow flies, fruit flies, drain flies, and fungus gnats are all part of the “filth fly” category.
The disgusting habits of these pests make them efficient vectors of disease. Flies pick up disease-causing organisms from unsanitary places like garbage and sewage and then transfer them to human and animal food sources through their mouthparts, vomit, or feces.
